Background

Boaz grew up in Santa Cruz and transferred to UCSC from Cabrillo College in 2000. He worked in the natural products laboratory of Phil Crews and completed his BS in chemistry in 2003. After a short time teaching high school chemistry, he began a PhD program in organic chemistry at UCSC in 2004.

Other Interests

Aside from his professional interests in chemistry, Boaz has written essays on food and cooking, given science presentations for high school students, led sing-alongs with retirees and toddlers, and held numerous odd jobs from gas station attendant to furniture deliverer. He has also sung bass in a barbershop quartet, played guitar and drums in country bands, and played trumpet in a klezmer ensemble. In his spare time he relaxes with his wife and daughter.
